Wines from D.O Utiel-Requena

Wine has been made in the DO Utiel Requena for 2700 years. Archaeological sites found in the region show that there has been continuous production and trading of wine from the Iberian era to the present day. Under all the narrow and steep streets, there is a whole world and labyrinth underground in the form of caves! These caves are located below the old town. Dating from the Muslim period (9th-13th centuries) they had several uses such as food preservation, cellars, even shelter. They were keeping the wine at the caves.



When you hear Utiel-Requena there is one grape that comes to mind: bobaL This indigenous grape variety  has adapted perfectly to the climate and local conditions. In addition 53% of this vineyards are made up of old vines planted more than 40 years ago. The wines made from Bobal are known for their deep red colour, for being full bodied with intense aromas and ripe red berry character.
